FMCSA Revokes Hero ELD from Approved Devices List
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has removed another electronic logging device (ELD) from its list of approved devices due to noncompliance with federal regulations.
As of April 2, 2026, the Hero ELD (Model: HRS, ELD Number: HRS205), developed by Hero ELD Inc., is no longer authorized for use.
The agency stated that the device failed to meet minimum regulatory requirements.
FMCSA officials emphasized their ongoing effort to ensure only compliant devices remain on the market. Since January 2025, more than 56 ELDs have been removed in order to protect the integrity of the program and improve road safety across the United States.
What Carriers Need to Know
Motor carriers currently using the revoked Hero ELD are required to take immediate action. Companies have a 60-day window to replace the device with one that is listed on FMCSA’s approved registry.
Until a compliant ELD is installed, drivers must switch to alternative methods for recording hours of service, such as paper logs or compliant logging software.
Important Deadline
All affected carriers must replace the revoked device no later than June 2, 2026.
Starting from that date, enforcement officers may issue violations for “no record of duty status” and place drivers out of service if they are found using a revoked ELD.
FMCSA Moving Forward
To reduce disruptions and unexpected costs for carriers, FMCSA has announced plans to strengthen its ELD certification and vetting process. The goal is to prevent noncompliant devices from being approved in the first place.
